Biography EXTENDED

Reviver formation

The band has been formed in 1997 by guitar players Fred Mantel and Tom Heemskerk.

During the late 90s, grunge was very popular. However, Fred and Tom were absolutely no fans of grunge. Therefore, they hoped for an 80s heavy metal revival. Fred and Tom concluded, let’s do it ourselves! Reviver was born.

Later on, Several demo’s and mcd’s have been recorded during the early years.

Early years

The MCD’s ‘Gates of Time’ (2001) and ‘Osiris Eyes’ (2003) resulted into very good reviews in magazins like Rockhard, Aardschok and Heavy Oder Was. Also, Reviver contributed to the Heavy Oder Was compilation CD ‘Metal Crusade III’ with the song “Cycles” which was released with 35.000 copies of the Heavy Oder Was mag. During that period of time, many more milestones were achieved.

First Reviver album released by Remedy

Following, the band signed with German metal label Remedy Records to release the first full length album in 2005.

Also, this release received good critics. The album combined some of the earlier songs like ‘Garden of Eden’ and ‘Osiris Eyes’, together with new work like ‘Bringer of Evil’ and ‘Watch Out’.

Several live shows have been performed to support the release: a CD presentation party in Hamburg, the Metal Bash festival in Germany and many more.

Split

During 2006, the band catched on with writing the second album.

However, differences in opinion regarding the musical direction, resulted into a split. The members continued with different projects and bands, like Montany, Magnetude and PPTA.

Reviver revives!

In 2017, Fred and Tom met eachother again and came up with the idea to bring back the succesful line-up from 2003-2006. All guys were into it.

The preparations and recordings for the second album started the following years. Finally, in 2022, the album was released.

A new line-up, a new album, a new future

The 2022 release was received very well and tasted for more. Reviver catched on working on new material and a new album. Not all band mates from the very first Reviver albums could join the future plans. New band mates joined Reviver featuring Michel Zandbergen on vocals and Leon Noë on drums.

Reviver released their 3th album ‘Carnival of Chaos’ in 2024. This release has been received as the best Reviver album so far!
