Tom always had an interest in music. His mother had an old piano and he started playing it, trying to copy tunes he heard on the radio. Later, his mother sent him to a piano teacher to improve his playing. This didn’t last very long because the lessons were always in the afternoon and he wanted to go outside with his friends instead. But the interest in music stayed.
Later on, he went from the piano to keyboards and was convinced that he had found his instrument. He was going to be a keyboard player.
But then, his brother began listening to hard rock and metal and started to play the drums. This affected Tom’s musical taste as well and the keyboard was quickly replaced by a guitar. So at the age of seventeen he found himself in a rehearsing room with some friends trying to play some Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden.
He started out listening to Iron Maiden so they are responsible for igniting the metal flame but who inspired him the most is Chuck Schuldiner. The music of Death and especially the album Individual Thought Patterns is his all time favourite metal album. And off course guitar gods like Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Tony Macalpine played a huge roll.
When Reviver started everything metal in the Netherlands was either death metal or thrash metal or a nice combo of these two styles. But Reviver started listening to Judas Priest, Crimson Glory, Vicious Rumors, Agent Steel, King Diamond and many other heavy/power metal bands and these bands inspired Reviver to try and create something similar.
Other interests Tom has, are just the usual. Beer, whisky and beautiful women and not in that particular order.
He loves the outdoors so he often go out hiking or cycling. Also riding one of his motorcycles is something he enjoys very much.
